Foundation Review

Hey girls! So I recently went on the hunt for the perfect foundation for my skin. I’ve had major skin issues for years, and have struggled with acne for a long time. I don’t break out nearly as much now, but all those years of breakouts has left me with lots of scars and uneven skin. Finding a foundation that not only covers all that, but also holds up against my oily skin is so important. I have been using Mary Kay matte wear foundation for the last 4 years, and while I really did like it, it just wasn’t giving me the coverage I wanted. I did a lot of research online, and watched tons of beauty blogger reviews on foundations. The one that seemed to keep coming up was the Estee Lauder Double Wear. It is a little pricey, but I am willing to spend the money on something that works well and makes my skin look good. I also heard good reviews on the Clinique Beyond Perfecting (foundation + concealer). I went into Ulta and had them color match me in both products, and I’m going to give you a full review of them today.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation

Positives: Great coverage, no need for concealer.

Negatives: Felt heavy, you could really see it on my skin, got shiny at end of day, transferred onto my phone and clothes.

While this had great coverage, I just wasn’t happy with it all around. I am very picky about my foundation due to years of trying to find the right thing. This looked cakey around my nose and on forehead, and started to rub off throughout the day. I also bought the Lancôme primer to go with this (recommended by the Ulta consultant) but I couldn’t really tell a difference with it. I tried the foundation both with and without the primer and didn’t see a visible difference. Both went back to the store.

Positives: Awesome coverage, lightweight, looked natural.

Negatives: Doesn’t have a pump, dries fast so you need to blend quickly.

I loved how this looked after applying! It didn’t feel like I had a ton of makeup on, but still covered all my problem areas. It stayed in place all day, and didn’t rub off or transfer onto anything else. I used the Becca primer with it, and was thrilled with the whole look! The Becca primer (of course I loved the name) is very different than any primer I have used in the past. This specific one is made for more oily skin or if you want a matte look. It feels almost sticky as you are applying which really helps hold your foundation together and keep it on your skin all day. It does not dry sticky though, and leaves the skin very smooth. I would definitely recommend these products!
